The Best San Diego Summer Activities 2019

By in San Diego Local with 0 Comments

While there is no shortage of amazing San Diego activities year round, summer is when America’s finest county really gets to shine. We’ve rounded up some of our favorite summer activities across the county to help fill your calendar this season.

Get Out on the Water

While hitting the sand and ocean water is first to come to mind for summer fun, San Diego also has a number of water activities over on Mission Bay. Powerboats, sailboats, kayaks, and paddle boards are some of the best on the water activities. Check out any of the local hotels in the area (like the Bahia Resort) to book a rental, and an instructor if needed.

Catch a Live Show

San Diego has a plethora of live music, ranging from ticketed concerts to free shows. Whether you’re in Balboa Park, North Park, or Carlsbad, there’s bound to be a neighborhood near you with their own free summer concert series. Many of these concerts showcase local musicians performing a mixture of original music and covers.

Looking to catch a big headlining show? San Diego once again has its own music festival, even though KAABOO doesn’t like to be defined as such. Not only does the “festival” draw in big radio headliners (2019 will features Kings of Leon, Sheryl Crow, Duran Duran, and more), you can catch a comedy act or an art installation.

Dine Outside During Sunset

Since we have such beautiful weather, there are plenty of restaurants with rooftop seating, where you can enjoy a picturesque sunset. Head to Altitude Sky Lounge in the Gaslamp or the C Level Lounge for some of the best views in San Diego. If you’re looking for more rooftop bars around the city, Thrillist has you covered!

US Sand Sculpting Challenge

American Express and USA Today’s 10 Best named this event one of the top 20 “Must See” events in the world! Over 300 tons of sand will be brought to the San Diego’s Bay pier, where master sand sculptors from around the world will create incredible pieces of art.
