Moving in San Diego is a great time to start with a clean slate—new neighborhood, new restaurants, and new neighbors. And it’s also the perfect time to start making new habits!

Cut the Cord

In this digital age, there is a plethora of streaming services available at your fingertips. If you find yourself choosing Netflix over Hulu time and time again, then maybe it’s time to cancel one! Take a look at your subscription and cable bills, including additional channels that you have added to your plan. Consolidate your plans to the ones that you use the most and ditch the extras.

Subscriptions

When moving in San Diego, it’s a good idea to keep an eye on your bank statement and watch for forgotten automatic deductions. Newspaper and magazine subscriptions often go unnoticed, since the cost associated with them is usually low. Take a hard look at your habits if you find yourself tossing that magazine every time it comes in the mail, it’s time for the chopping block!

Let there be (energy efficient) light!

This is a great time to swap out those old incandescent light bulbs for LEDs. Many of us resisted switching to efficient but harsh CFL bulbs and hung onto our incandescent, but they aren’t the best for your electric bill. If ambience is your concern, new LED lights may allow you to control the brightness and color for exactly the light you want. We’ve also got a blog post on more ways to save on your electric bill.

Unpack ALL the Boxes

Yes, you should unpack all your boxes! Moving can be exhausting, but in the end you’ll be happy once you’ve unloaded and properly stored your belongings. Plus, you won’t have to play the guessing game of where the TV remote is.

Records

Before you bought the home you are moving into, most likely you were provided with a list of upgrades and repairs. It’s easy to forget the types of finish you selected, especially if it was years ago. Start a running list of changes you make to the new home upon move in. You’ll be happy when it comes time to sell the home and you’ve already done some of your homework.
